Our world is changing ever so fast and it is important for teachers to include these changes into the classroom. When teachers ignore the growth of technology within their classrooms, doesn’t meant that it isn’t happening in the real world. Students need to have the opportunity to learn about the available tools that they have access to, as well as learning in a new, engaging way. Five Card Flickr Five Card Flickr is a fun and engaging new way for students to become creative when writing or telling stories. This resource produces the viewer with five random pictures. The students’ job is to create a story using all of the pictures given. Students have the option of posting their story on the website if they would like to, which gives students a sense of purpose and allows for the activity to feel more meaningful. Magazine Cover Students have the opportunity to create their own magazine cover in a digital environment. This could be used for many different projects, such as creating a new product or invention, creative writing as a superstar, or advertising something they are passionate about. This resource allows students to be creative and put their own twist on their production. There are a variety of different templates to choose from, as well as colours and fonts. Students also have the opportunity to incorporate their own photos to create a personal twist in their work. Pixton Pixton is a fun and new way for students to create a visual story. There are over 3000 backgrounds, 2000 props, and 700 subject specific templates available for students to choose from. For students that have a hard time imagining the story in their mind, comic strips are a great way for students to create a visual image for their readers. This resources also allows students to be more excited and motivated when creating stories. Rather than writing their thoughts on a piece of paper, students are able to use computers and Ipads. Pixton also has a variey of interactive rubrics that students and teachers are able to use, which allows a smooth process when students are assessing themselves. This resource can be incorporated in any subject area as well as grade level because of the variety of topics and templates available. Google Cardboard Students are able to interact and experience a variety of virtual worlds with the use of Google cardboard and a smartphone. Students are able to experience different environments and places around the world from the comfort of their classrooms. Students are able to participate in virtual field trips as well as a variety of games and thrilling stimulations. Google cardboard is also a cheap tool which educators are able to purchase for the low cost of twenty dollars each. Fakebook This resource is a fictional Facebook profile where students are able to create a fake character or personality. This website is great for storytelling as students add to a character’s bio as well as experiences and emotions they may be going through. It can also be used for studying purposes, such as historians or important scientists or animals being learned within the classroom
